Abstract:Within the parameters of the general theme of this issue: “The democratic processes in post-conflict societies”, this editorial reflection tries to ask and to answer the question concerning the foundations of democracy in its universality and particularity. It argues that democracy is, indeed, one of “the things necessary for the good life”, not only because it is a socio-political framework where people test their self-determination, self–definition and the definition of their destiny, but it is also the framework of the fundamental values, namely: dignity, equality, and freedom.
